Caring For Your Carpets

Holidays are coming! We all would like to present our homes at their finest. Carpets are one of the first things company sees when entering your home. Carpets will not age gracefully if not maintained properly.

Tracking soil in your home from outdoors is the biggest problem because it is carried throughout the home. If you can keep tracked-in soil to a minimum, you can reduce the dirt build up and ultimately decrease the wear and tear of your carpets.

Some helpful hints to optimize the care of your carpets:

  • Scotchgarding high trafficked areas will help maintain the life of the carpet.
  • Light trafficked areas – vacuum at least twice a week.
  • Moderate trafficked areas – Vacuum 3-4 times per week.
  • Heavy trafficked areas – Vacuum daily.
  • Wet Stains – Blot the area with a white cloth or paper towel.
  • Dry Stains – Scoop up all of the loose material and vacuum any residual particles.
  • Red Wine Stains – pour white wine on the red stain, follow with club soda and blot dry.

Always test the cleaning solution in an inconspicuous area to determine if discoloration will occur. Never rub, scrub or brush the area being cleaned. Work from the outside to the center of the stain to prevent spreading of the stain and allow the area to dry thoroughly.
