Time to Change Those Air Filters!

With temperatures on the rise, it’s time to change your air filters! The most important thing to remember about your air conditioner is maintenance… maintenance… maintenance! Proper maintenance starts with frequent filter changes. The average household should change their filter (depending on your lifestyle and use) about once per month. A good way to remember is to change your filter when you pay your utilities. A great basic filter is the 1” pleated filter. You can find these at your local Ace Hardware stores along with a wide selection of other sizes. By purchasing your filters by the box it’s easy to always have one on hand. That way you won’t miss a month.

Professional maintenance is the key. Your air conditioning system runs as much or even more than your car. An annual cooling (and heating) system service is essential and the benefits far exceed the small investment. A proper maintenance will involve checking the refrigerant charge, servicing, cleaning, lubricating and verifying all the components are functioning within manufacturer’s specifications. If you notice a problem with your air conditioner get it checked right away. A malfunctioning part can soon cause other bigger problems and that leads to more expensive repairs.

Having a thorough system evaluation is important and will help prevent additional more costly problems down the road. Always ask the service technician to explain what he finds or suspects could cause issues with your system. With the proper maintenance, your air conditioner will use less energy, last longer and have fewer repairs.
